Arthur Flint Obituary

Ross was born on Aug.23, 1934 to Laura and Stanley Flint in Cutknife, Sask., the oldest of six children.  He moved with his family to the Bulkley Valley when he was fifteen to the farm on the corner of Telkwa High Road and Billeter Road.  Ross met his wife Norma Elizabeth (Betty) Burns in 1956 at a Naramata, BC.  They were married on March 29, 1958.

In 1959, Ross moved his family back to Smithers, BC.  Ross worked as a milkman and farmer until he started work as a custodian at Muheim Elementary School in Sep. 1963.  He continued to work through the years at Muheim then at Chandler Park and then Smithers Secondary School where he became the first day custodian in the north.  He finished off his years at Chandler Park as a day custodian when he retired in 1994 at the age of 60.

In 1989, the family had moved to the Woodland Subdivision in Telkwa.  In the 1980’s, Ross got back into his love of horses, working with Welsh Mountain Ponies from Northern Twilight Farm.  Ross trained the ponies for riding and driving and built many carts, wagons, bob sleighs, and stone boats.  He also enjoyed the outdoors and did a lot of fishing, camping, canoeing, snowmobiling, ATVing, and just wandering around happily in the bush.

Ross passed away June 12, 2025, very suddenly from pneumonia.  He was surrounded by his family during his short stay in the hospital.

Ross is survived by his wife of 67 years, Norma Elizabeth (Betty) Flint; brother Lyle Flint;  sisters Betty Flint and Pearl Brinkhurst; his children Miriam Botten (Dave), Stanley Norman Flint, and Lesley Ezinga (Sid); grandchildren Laura Botten (Jock Fanshaw), Tim Botten, Logan Flint, Aiden Flint, Allyson Flint, William Helps (Chelsea), Catherine Helps;  Great grandchildren Lisa Fanshaw, Ryan Fanshaw, and Chloe Helps.

He was predeceased by his parents Laura and Stanley Flint; sister Florence Gilbert; brother Billy Flint; brother-in-law Bev Brinkhurst; nephew Garnet Gilbert and nephew Dean Gilbert.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Bulkley Valley District Hospital for everything they did to keep Ross comfortable during his stay.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bulkley Valley District Hospital.  A Celebration of Life will be held in September, the date to be announced.
