Carl Szydlik Obituary

Carl was born in Bonnyville, Alberta, September 29th, 1937, to Paul and Lena Szydlik. He had 2 brothers: Steve and Walter, and is survived by his sister Pauline.  They grew up on the family farm in Ardmore.

In 1956, he stepped off the train in Houston BC, where he began to build his life, and Houston remained his home until he passed away peacefully at the Burns Lake Hospital.

Carl and Nancy were married in 1962 and the family grew to include Sheila and Bernice. He was also a grandfather to 5, and a great grandfather to 7.

In the early years, Carl worked for various logging contractors; then, as his own company grew, summers were spent working for mining companies, road building or firefighting and winters were spent logging.  In 1973, he bought the land that would grow to be his life's passion and what we all know as the farm.

Whether through mining, logging, the farm or other dealings, Carl was known for his hard work and generosity.  He employed and helped many people over the years and was considered an honest and respectful man who knew what he wanted.

Carl is survived and deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; daughters Sheila (Moe) and Bernice; grandchildren, Michael (Heather), Marlee, Jenna, Madison and Tom (Marlys); great grandchildren, Julia, Adeline, Jacob, Jackson, Amya, Walker and Raeleen; sister Pauline (Ralmer); sisters-in-law Dolores and Grace and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other extended family members.

He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Lena and his brothers, Steve and Walter.

Thank you to everyone for their support, their visits, and all the wonderful care that was given to Carl.
