Carman Gustav Graf
We would like to announce the passing of our father, Carman Gustav Graf, who died peacefully on March 21, 2025. He had just celebrated his 89th birthday.
Dad was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather as well as, a respected and well-liked member of both the Smithers and Telkwa communities.
His family and service to community were very important to him. Dad served as Mayor and Alderman in Smithers and Telkwa for over 30 years and did many things to help improve the quality of life for their citizens. In that time, he received several awards, including the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal and the David McKenzie Community Champion Award, all recognizing long and faithful years of service.
Dad also ran a successful business in the valley for over 50 years. He was also an accomplished small aircraft pilot and a champion stock car racer.
Dad’s faith in God was important to him and he was a member of the Mountainview Assembly Church for many years.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Joan of 69 years. He is survived by four children, Pamela, Doug (Lasta), Stephen (Brenda) and Cindy Pidherny (Clinton); as well as twelve grandchildren, Greg (Dominique), Haley (Joel), Ashley (Marco), Rachelle (Cody), Chelsey (Travis), Stephanie, Nicole, Chantelle (Chris), Russell (Jaya), Alex, Alexa, Katie; and eleven great grandchildren, Annabelle, Brooke, Mariah, Emily, Jack, Finn, Theodore, Oswald, Luca, Rosie and Remington. He is also survived by his brothers Harry and Walter and sister Verna, as well as many in-laws, nieces & nephews.
Dad will be dearly missed by us all.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital for the excellent care and compassion for dad.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Dad on May 17th, 2025 at the Mountainview Assembly Church at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bulkley Lodge.
