Youngest daughter of Clarence and Winnie Goodacre, Charlotte was especially close to her Goodacre family throughout her life: sister, Daintre (Fred); brothers, Jim (Margaret) and Slim (Mary); cherished nieces and nephews and their children; and her many MacDonald and Cimolini cousins. Born and raised in Smithers, Charlotte graduated from the St. Paul's School of Nursing in 1953 and enjoyed a pediatric nursing career in New Westminster and Winnipeg. Married to Joe Kelly of Smithers in 1958, Charlotte was a gentle and affectionate mother to her Patti and Mike. Each time we walked through her front door, she would be there, waiting for us to come home. In 1981, after fourteen years as an excellent homemaker, Charlotte returned to Smithers with her children and joined her family at the SuperValu, working in the bakery. Charlotte loved curling, sunshine, cats, sing alongs, cheeky humour, writing poems, and gardening.
Our family offers thanks to SuperValu staff and shoppers; Doctors Pretorius, Dykstra, and Morkel; her Wellspring caregivers; and the staff at the Bulkley Lodge for years of friendship, kindness, and compassionate care. Thank you for brightening her days.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
Please consider a donation in her name to the BC Children's Hospital (Vancouver) or of unscented flowers to the residents at the Bulkley Lodge and think of Charlotte whenever the sun warms your face and makes you smile.
