In loving Memory of
Clara (Klara) Schwegler
January 9, 1928 to Oct 4, 2023
Our mom was the most loving, kind person. She was born on January 9, 1928 in Faurndau, Germany to Martha and Alfred Haberli. She graduated from her school and went to work in a sewing factory during WW2 until it got blown up by the bombs. Then in Jan 1949 she went to work on a farm in Switzerland. She had a very difficult childhood, with her father at war and having her mother pass away at a very young age. Before going to school in the morning, she was out doing farm chores and then after school, she was in the fields working on her family farm. She was always there to help her neighbours and friends too. Time passed and she met a young man named Edward Hidber and they were married Sept 21, 1950 in Uster Switzerland. On April 21, 1951 they left Europe on a boat with 13 of the Hidber family and travelled to Canada, where they settled in Telkwa, BC on the Timothy Ranch on Woodmere rd. The Hidber family all settled in small cabins on the ranch. On Mar 17, 1952 they had their first child Esther. Sadly on May 9, 1955 her husband Edward passed away in a farm accident. At the time she was expecting their second child Eddy who was born Dec 16, 1955. She carried on with her Hidber family until she met Joseph Schwegler, who was a worker on the farm at Timothy Ranch. In 1953 Joseph bought the Billeter Farm on Billeter Rd, where they homesteaded on a dairy farm. Time passed and eventually the two were married on October 31, 1956. Slowly a large family came to be of 9 children. Irene in 1957, then Susie, Pete, Norm, Joey and last the twins Lilly and Lucy in 1964. This was now a family of 11. The house was now too small so in Sept 1964, Mom and Dad bought the Mackney Farm at Canyon Creek, but still kept the farm above, and dairy farming kept going. Mom had many passions which were knitting, crocheting, sewing, bazars, and Swiss picnics. One of Moms greatest passion was her garden. She always had the most beautiful pristine garden and flowers! Not a weed to be found! That was her passion; it was always perfection for her. In 1980 mom and dad decided to parts ways and mom moved to town and had again the most pristine flowers and vegetable gardens. Things always had to be just right. That was just her way. She was involved and enjoyed senior carpet bowling, and the seniors’ lunches. On Sunday it was dress up really sharp for the Sunday mass, and then to A&W breakfast with her dear friend Margaret Mettler. On her weekdays in the afternoon she enjoyed her walks with Margaret, which they did this for many years until age started to creep up. Mom spent her last years from Aug 2022 with daughter Irene in Alberta where she passed.
She is survived by brother Fred Haberli , children Esther Measor(Mike Frohlick), Irene (Dennis) Ness, Susie (Rory)Boyko, Norman (Patti) Schwegler, Joey(Deena) Schwegler, Lilly Schwegler(Alvin Muir), Lucy(Larry)Cormier, 15 Grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister Ilse and sons Eddy and Peter.
A Funeral Mass for Clara will be held in Jun 2024. Further announcement will follow closer to the date.
Rest in peace Mommie
