Connie (Euverman) Kronemeyer was born on October 30, 1939, in Hardenberg, Overijssel, The Netherlands, the fifth of nine children born to Arend and Hermina Euverman. As a child, she emigrated to Canada with her family in 1948. They settled in Houston, BC, where her given name, Kunnegien, was changed to Connie Jean. Connie finished school at grade 8 and worked as a nanny and housekeeper for families in the Houston area before training to be an aid at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital, where she lived and worked with the nuns in the maternity ward for a few years. She met Dick Kronemeyer at Young Peoples group at church, and they married on October 17, 1958. They spent the first 4 years of their married life in a 2-room cabin in the woods by Canyon Creek, where Dick ran a sawmill. Their first three daughters were born during this time – Mavis, Shirley, and Linda. They moved into Smithers right before their fourth daughter, Diane, was born. Five years later, their son Ed was born, and eight years later their last daughter Monica was born.
Connie enjoyed raising her children, keeping a clean and comfortable home, gardening, baking, knitting and crafting – and sharing these gifts with those around her. She was especially fond of birds, keeping many feeders. She was known for her lemon meringue pies and her jam bars, as well as her open-door hospitality - there was always room at her table! Family was important to Connie and she loved her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings and their families. In her later years, Connie struggled with Dementia, but although she lost a lot of memory, she never lost her loving and welcoming spirit, or her beautiful smile. She and Dick were blessed with 66 years of marriage before the Lord took him home three months before her. Connie had a strong faith in God, and regularly invited people to church. The family takes much comfort and joy imagining her fully restored in body and mind with her Heavenly father, and are very grateful for the care and support of all of the people who cared for her and visited during her final years.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Connie at Smithers Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 1pm.
