David Ball

 DAVID HAROLD BALL

( March 20, 1951- July 25, 2026)

David Harold Ball passed away in Smithers, B.C. July 25, 2026 at the age of 75 after a brief battle with lung cancer.

David was born March 20, 1951 in Vancouver, B.C. to Harold Ball and Patricia Jamieson.

He spent many happy years as a child at the family camp in Bowser near Qualicum on Vancouver Island with many cousins and his parents.

As an adult, Dave worked in the film industry in Vancouver as a set decorator and Props Master, notably in such movies as “Natty Gann” and “Housekeeping” fraternizing with actors such as Tom Selleck of “Magnum P.I.”

He also played bass guitar in a variety of bands in the city and was a partner in the sound studio PsiCord. His interest in music with like-minded friends led him to be instrumental in the formation of the group “Doug and the Slugs” who are still playing today almost 50 years later.

David moved to Smithers with his partner Barb in 2016 where he enjoyed the music and arts scene and starting building guitars, demonstrating a love of wood- working.

He is survived by his partner of twenty-four years, Barbara Bawlf, brother Grant (Elaine), sons Llowyn (Selena), Evan (Paige), and Jesse (Usha) as well two grand-children, Cameron and Heather. He was predeceased by both his parents.

The family wants to thank the wonderful care received by David at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital from the third - floor nursing staff and Dr. Kate Niethammer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Vancouver.
