Donald William Mason

MASON, Donald William, passed away on April 18th, 2020 at the Bulkley Lodge in Smithers, BC after a long battle with dementia. He was 83 years old.

Don was born the oldest of two children in Vancouver, BC. After graduating from Magee High School, Don continued his education at the University of British Columbia and later graduated as a Certified General Accountant. Don married the love of his life, Valerie Ryan in 1959 and in 1964 they moved to Smithers where he began building his accounting practice. Don and Val both enjoyed entertaining all the friends they acquired over the years and made many long-lasting friendships. Later Don cherished memories of fishing trips, family vacations at Boundary Bay in Point Roberts and the many winter weekends spent with family at the ski cabin. After retirement Don and Val enjoyed endless hours in their beautiful yard gardening and welcoming friends that would stop by for a visit. They were always so proud to share their garden and always loved the company.

Don is survived by his children, Bob (Tracy) Mason (Amanda and Kyle), Rick (Cheryl) Mason (Connor and Todd), Cathy (Tim) Veenstra (Adam, Joel, and Jenna), and younger brother Robert C. Mason.

We would like to thank all the close family and friends who supported and prayed for dad over the past few years. We are all so thankful for Dr. Scholtz, the nurses and support staff at the Bulkley Lodge, your efforts were nothing short of exceptional.

“Thank you, Dad, for all the precious memories you gave us. You and Mom have left our hearts full.  May God’s love surround you always!”
