Edith Weick Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Edith Weick (McKenzie) on March 30, 2023 in Smithers BC at the age of 84. Edith was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Ralph Weick, her mother Matilda Maas, father John Moir and stepfather August Maas, , her sister Betty Goodman, brother Herbert Myers and son Dwayne Arthur Weick.  She leaves behind her daughters Tracey (Earl) Hague of Nanoose Bay, Sharon (Gary) Eastabrook,  Debbie (Heath) Walton of Smithers and son Ralph (Jackie) of Prince Rupert, sisters Lucy Kormilo of Selkirk Manitoba, Linda McGregor of Aberdeen Scotland, brothers Dave Myers of Quesnel and Wayne Myers of Winnipeg Manitoba. Grandchildren, Erin, Shannon(Ross), Matthew (Julie), Gregory, Adrienne (Damian), Cole (Tamia), Kyle, Nolan and Sydnee. Great Grandchildren, Scarlett, Liliana, Eleanor, Rosalee, Jameson, Michael and Mikennzie. She also leave behind many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Edith was born on June 21, 1938 in Smithers BC. She spent her early years on the family farm in Glentanna before moving into Smithers. As a teenager she worked at Heggies Café and then the Meadowland Café where she met Ralph. After a brief courtship they married on August 16, 1956 at the United Church in Smithers. Shortly after that they moved to Prince Rupert where  Edith worked as a waitress at the La Gondola Restaurant.  Ralph had an entrepreneurial spirit and Edith worked on and off with him for many years in their family businesses while raising their family. Edith was also very involved in the Kinette Club in Prince Rupert. Once their children were growing up and at a more independent age, Edith began working full time as a ticket agent for Alaska Ferries.

In 1989 Ralph and Edith sold off their businesses in Prince Rupert and bought a home on Francois Lake where they wanted to retire. Edith got involved in the Tweedsmuir Park Rod and Gun Club and the Colleymount Rec Committee. After spending 12 years on Francois Lake, in 2001 they sold their home at the lake and moved to Smithers to be closer to their family.

Edith loved to spend time with her family and spent a lot of hours cooking, baking and trying to teach them to knit and crochet. She also had a love for gardening. She would spend many hours tending her flowers while Ralph looked after the vegetables.

A Celebration of Life will held at a later date.
