Frederick George Brine 
July 21, 1933 – June 7, 2026

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, Frederick George "Fred" Brine passed away peacefully at the age of 
92, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Prince George, British Columbia, in 1933, Fred will be lovingly remembered by his 
daughters, Sharon (Chris), Gail (Rupert), and Bobbie (Grange); his grandchildren, Leya, Jeremy 
(Sonya), Haley (Eric), Kodi (Kristina), Matthew, and Adam; and his seven great-grandchildren. He 
is also survived by his brother-in-law, Mike; his sisters-in-law, Frances and Shirley; his niece, 
Linda Purvis; and his nephew, Brian Hale.
Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Staffie, in December 2025. He was also 
predeceased by his parents; his sister, Mildred (Millie) Hale; his brothers-in-law, Bud, Walter, 
Frank, and Bruno; and his sisters-in-law, Marilyn, Pam, and Alice.
Fred began his railway career with CN in January 1950 as a callboy before becoming a 
fireman and, ultimately, a locomotive engineer. In 1961, he and Staffie moved from Prince 
George to the Bulkley Valley, where they built their home and raised their family. For the 
next 40 years, Fred worked the rail line between Prince Rupert and Prince George, retiring 
from VIA Rail in January 1990.
When he wasn't working, and throughout his retirement, he could often be found sharing coffee 
with friends at A&W or spending time at the golf course, whether playing a round or 
volunteering countless hours in support of the Club. Fred also believed strongly in giving back to 
his community. He was an active member of numerous local organizations where he generously 
gave his time and friendship over many years.
Above all else, Fred cherished his time at Babine Lake. Whether fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, 
working on projects around the cabin, or simply relaxing beside a campfire, he was happiest 
outdoors. He shared his love of nature, animals, travel and sports with his daughters and 
grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Haskins, Tara, the Home Support staff, the 
dedicated teams at Bulkley Lodge and BV District Hospital, BC Ambulance, Doug, Roberta, and 
the many family members, friends, and neighbours who offered their care, kindness, and 
unwavering support throughout the past seven months.
In keeping with Fred's wishes, there will be no formal Celebration of Life. He was honoured 
alongside Staffie during her Celebration of Life in June. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's 
memory may be made to Bulkley Lodge, the Smithers Snowmobile Club, or a charity of your 
choice.
