Garry Ferster Obituary

Garry was born on April 2nd, 1954 in Melville, Saskatchewan to parents Alfred and Ella. He had a humble beginning growing up in a small house on the family farm. Garry and his siblings were taught the value of hard work early in life, which he never forgot.

It was in 1972, after he graduated, that he moved to Quesnel, BC to try his hand at logging. It wasn’t long after that that Buffy, as he was known as back then, found the love of his life. Garry and Kelleen were married in Quesnel on October 3rd, 1975 and ever since they have never left each other’s sides.

Soon after coming to B.C., Garry and his brothers Roger and Dale started their own company, Rogada Logging. In 1979, Garry and Kelleen moved their family to Smithers which they have called home ever since. He stayed in the logging industry as a contractor in this area for 18 years. It was December 1st, 1997 when he really changed course; he and his brother Richard purchased Evergreen Industrial Supplies. Although it was still servicing the logging industry, going into retail was a big change. He and Kelleen were very committed to this new venture until they eventually sold the business and retired in 2014.

Garry’s passions over the years were of the simple variety, really anything that required work to achieve a goal. Designing, help build and landscaping new homes for his family is something that he quite enjoyed; most recently living in and working tirelessly on his third such home. He loved to be outdoors whenever he could and spending quality time with the family. He really enjoyed camping in the summer months and spending quality time at their cabin. He loved fishing, snowmobiling, quading and really enjoyed one surprising task, getting firewood.

Above everything else, Garry was an amazing husband and father. Everything he did he always had one thing in mind: what was best for his family. He worked very hard to provide opportunities for his family and provided a great example of what could be achieved through hard work and dedication. And more recently he found another passion; he was blessed with some wonderful grandchildren whom he adored to no end and brought him great joy.

Garry was a great man and was the backbone of our family. He is loved by many and will be missed dearly.
