Hans 'Pete' Meier

It is with profound sadness that the family of Hans ‘Pete’ Meier announce his passing on March 11th, 2024.

Pete was born May 29th, 1944 in Aarau, Switzerland.  His family immigrated to Smithers when he was three years old.  He was predeceased by his parents John & Rosa Meier and his sisters, Denise Trudel & Rosalie Meier and his niece Diane Trudel.

Our dad will be forever missed by his wife of 53 years, Mary and their children – Ian (Sandra), Chris (Katherine), Janis (Aaron) and Darren (Christine).  His presence will be especially missed by his cherished grandchildren who he adored – grandsons: Connor, Brett & Jakob and his “sweeties”: Gabriella, Gianna, Avary, Rylee & Ella.

Pete was a man of few words but absolutely enjoyed leaning up against a pickup box for hours or at the Coffee Shop for a good “BS” session.  He truly loved to tinker and had a knack for bringing life back to things that others would otherwise waste.  Known for his love of fishing and proud of his biggest catch (a 10ft. sturgeon).  Pete spent many hours in his workshop doing woodwork, making toys – rocking horses or whatever project our mom had him making. 

Dependable when it counted and always willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbours.  Quietly strong and caring but truly loved to play a good prank, his sense of humor never wavered.

Your winks will be forever missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 27th, 2024 at the Glenwood Hall.  Please join us in celebrating his life and to feel free to share a story from 1:00-3:00pm.
