Our lives have changed, our Dad has left.
Dad was a hard worker and as we grew we found that our Dad could do, make and fix almost anything. Dad could always find a use for almost anything and made the best of everything he had.
Dad grew up poor so he treasured all the things he was able to have and accomplish in his almost 95 years. He was educated as a technical model maker and worked his trade until he emigrated in 1951. Upon arriving he worked in the local mines, sawmill, milk plant and then began his mechanic career. He retired from the Ministry of Highways in 1986 and was able to enjoy 37 retirement years.
His favorite pastime foremost was fishing, he was a lifelong Canuck and Lions fan and he so loved reading, learning and a good bowl of ice cream. He explored most all of BC and enjoyed our yearly vacation to southern BC and beyond. His woodworking treasures were always made as gifts to others, we all have wooden toys, furniture, carvings, cedar bowls and plates in our homes.
Dad kept very busy building things during his life. Our childhood home, which he and mom began by clearing the land and then constructing the home and many years later the large addition, all built single handed. Over the years he made a travel trailer, machine operated merry go round, swimming pools and so many other things, mainly using recycled or discarded items.
Family was always at the core, we grew up never needing for anything. The grandchildren were his treasures and the yard became their giant play area where he joined in swimming or giving tractor rides. He was overjoyed with the great grandchildren and was ever so proud.
He cared for our Mom throughout his later years doing the cleaning, laundry, sewing and anything that was necessary. The cooking and baking was always under Mom’s watchful eye. He missed her so much.
Our Dad is with our Mom now … where he wished to be.
Greatly missed by daughters Monica and Jean and their families
Noble, steady and kind
best example of a man, father and grandfather
will be missed beyond measure
