Jason William Van Horn

June 12, 1972 – June 19, 2026

It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear “Jay.”

Jason was the 3rd child and only son to Bill and Lynn Van Horn. He grew up and spent most of his life here in the valley — Smithers was his home.

One of Jay’s gifts in life was the ability to plan and construct many different things. For many years, Jay worked alongside his father at the family business of Glacier Roofing Ltd. Jason was also hired to help with community projects like the Smithers Airport expansion, Walnut Park Elementary School, and the Main Street Landscape Revitalization. He was very proud to be a part of these projects.

This talent also led him into a very passionate hobby of modeling. Over the past few years, Jay created some very impressive models, mostly with a Star Wars theme — which was another great passion of his. Through his work and hobby experiences, Jay met some great friends, who he deeply cared for.

Even though Jason faced some big adversities throughout his life, he was a very generous and big-hearted man who truly loved his family and friends. Jay will be deeply missed, and we are so grateful for having him in our lives.

Jason leaves behind his mother, Lynn Van Horn; his two sisters, Lorinda Loset (David) and Christy Hall; his nephew Aaron; nieces Lindsay (Julian) and Mishaela (Dillan); great-nieces Addie and Cecilia; his best friends Christian and April Petersen; and many more.
