Jerry was born to parents Claude and Emma Dohler. Jerry had an older sister Shirley and a younger brother Leonard (Coranne), two children Tammera (Robert) and Darin (Sue). He married his wife Kathy in 1966 and was working at Wayside Service at that time. Next, he drove truck for the Laughlin brothers, hauling lumber from their mill to the rail siding at Doughty, and then he moved on to Bandstra Transportation and Finks Sawmills. Together Jerry and Kathy built Suskwa Lodge on Babine Lake, which they sold in 1975. Jerry and Larry Thomas bought a truck in 1977, and Jerry bought Larry out and purchased his first new 1978 Kenworth and was on the way to having his own company. He had as many as four trucks when he purchased land on Tatlow Road to build a shop for his trucks, and in 1994 branched out and started Tatlow Tire Store. The tire store was sold in 2003, and in 2006 he sold most of his trucks at auction in Prince George. However, two trucks went to Darin, and Jerry bought a 2007 Kenworth, his last new truck. Although partially retired, he kept on trucking. In 2015 Darin took over the business, and Jerry worked for him until 2018 when his health began declining. His happiest place was on the road behind the wheel of a truck. May he rest in peace.
Jerry passed away peacefully the evening of May 26, 2024 surrounded by family. He lived his entire life in the Bulkley Valley, was well known in the community and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
