It is with profound sorrow that we, the family of the late John Karsten of Houston, BC, announce his passing on October 7, 2025, at the age of 95.
Left to mourn with an abundance of loving memories are his wife Ann, his children Ken (Lori), and Wendy (Raymond), as well as his sister Hilary and brother Pete.
John’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who took immense pride in the family he and Ann built together. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren - Mandi (Jordan), Robyn (Jaron), Candice (David), Ashlyn (Jessie), and Ryan (Sarah), along with Zaira, Bentley, Maxon, Piper, Boaz, and Violet. Each one held a special place in his heart, and his love for them was evident in everything.
John was known for his warmth, generosity and willingness to always lend a hand. A strong man of faith, he lived his beliefs with quiet strength and humility. His devotion to his family and his faith guided every part of his life, leaving a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He was deeply involved in his community and always found ways to help wherever he could, even in his later years. John’s sense of humour was one of a kind- his laughter could fill a room, and his stories brought joy to everyone around him.
His powerful singing voice could often be heard ringing through the church, sung from the bottom of his soul. No one who heard it will ever forget that sound or the spirit behind it.
John was predeceased by his father Roelof, his mother Margje (Marigje), his brothers John, Ralph, Ken, Ted, his and sisters Grace and Anne, and his beloved son Bobby.
A service will be held in the Houston Christian Reformed Church on Friday, October 17th, at 1:00 PM.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
-Isaiah 40;31
