It is with broken hearts and deep sorrow that we must announce the sudden passing of our husband, brother, and everyone’s friend John.
John was born and raised in Nanaimo. He started his working life early at age 16. By age 18, he had obtained his class 1 license and shortly thereafter started his career as a logging truck driver, a career which he continued for 30+ years. Employment opportunities as an adult found John and his beloved wife Lisa moving off the island to Pemberton, Alberta, and finally to Houston B.C. where they settled happily until John’s passing.
Later in life John spent several years in the mining industry working in both northern B.C. and the Yukon. More recently John had been working in various positions pipelining in northern B.C.
Never one to be without work for even a day, John had no trouble finding a job thanks to his excellent work ethics and his likability. Anyone who ever worked with John loved him as a workmate. John’s true stories of his real-life misadventures kept everyone in stitches of laughter. He was a kind, helpful, hardworking, funny, animal loving guy whom we will all miss and remember fondly.
It was while John was out in the forest doing his usual routine of exercising his beloved dogs that John suffered a fatal heart attack. His faithful dogs stayed by his side until the very end.
John was predeceased by his mother Helen and his father John Makuk.
Left to mourn John’s passing are Lisa, his loving wife of 37 years, all her extended family , his dogs Reba and Max, his best friend and sister Nan who taught him every bad thing she knew, his sister-in-law Debbie, and a long list of old and new friends all of whom loved him dearly.
May you rest in eternal peace dear Johnny. You will forever remain close within our hearts. Until we meet again, we love you sweet man.
There will be no formal service as per John’s wishes.
