Judith Rose Wass 811, died February 11,2020 in the Wrinch Memorial Hospital with her friend by her side.
She was born in Winnipeg Manitoba June 8, 1938 to Philip and Phyllis Wass. Her father and mother came from England as young teenagers, where they met in Winnipeg. She moved to Toronto Ontario with her parents and brother when she was very young. She attended schools in Toronto and graduated from Toronto General Hospital as a Registered Nurse with a BSN in 1960. In 1973 along with her parents she drove across Canada to Hazelton to work as an RN in the Wrinch Memorial Hospital. She worked in the operating room in the old WMH, and in 1977 helped all staff move into the new WMH, working first as a Head Nurse, then Assistant administrator working with Dr. Phil Muir and accountant Joe Francis. She ran punctilious, faithful departments with appreciation from all her staff.
In 1983 she joined the South Hazelton WI and was secretary for the organization since 2008.
Her home became a Dog Kennel for Shelties called “FIRESTAR SHELTIES”. She raised Shelties and showed her dogs in Provincial Dog Shows with her friends from Smithers and further afield. Her Sheltie dogs have been sold in Canada and USA to people who love the temperament and personality of her Shelties.
Her other passion and devotion since retirement along with dog shows, was gardening, having flower boxes, baskets, tubs, and garden plots around her yards, full of beautiful flowers.
She loved to watch figure skating and went with her friends to live skating events in B.C. She also enjoyed curling, tennis, dog shows, and the Toronto Maple Leaf’s hockey team.
Judith Wass is survived by her sister-in-law Jean Wass, her nephew Greg Wass (Marina), her niece Wendy Kelly (Rob), great nieces Kari and Kristi Schaefers, and Grace Kelly all of Chicago IL USA. She was predeceased by her parents Philip and Phyllis Wass and brother Lawrence Wass. She also leaves behind and will be sadly missed by many many friends.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff of the Wrinch Memorial Hospital, also to Dr. Pichie, Dr. Said, and Dr. Ngai, for the excellent care the she received while in hospital.
