Marjorie Rines Obituary

Marjorie Rines passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, in Smithers, British Columbia, at the age of 92. Marjorie was born in Marcelin Saskatchewan and moved to Creston B.C in 1941. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Royal Inland Hospital School of Nursing in Kamloops 1955 where she met many lifelong friends. We enjoyed hearing the wonderful stories she shared about those special years. Marjorie married the love of her life, Ron Rines in 1957.   She was a founding member of the Cranbrook Homemaker Service and devoted countless hours to serving her community through volunteer work.

They raised their children in Cranbrook and when they retired, they loved to travel and lived in many places including Costa Rica for a short time and spent many winters in their home in Arizona. They moved to Smithers in 2006 to be closer to their daughter and younger grandchildren. Ron passed away on July 30, 2010

She is survived by her children, Ken Rines, Shelley Rines (Paul Gibson) Leanne Kindler (Tom) her grandchildren, Derek Rines, Cory Rines (Jacqueline), Kayla Kindler (Ryan Campbell) and Jessie Kindler (Eddie Forsythe), her six great grandchildren Isabella Kindler, Sarah Rines, Sophia Rines, Waylon Kindler-Campbell, Evan Forsythe and Carter Forsythe and her sisters Olive Schwab and Louise Rockl.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was actively involved in her church for many years. Marjorie believed in staying active and healthy participating in a variety of activities, and taking daily walks even into her 90s.

She asked that this message be included:

“Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what’s to be, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, different paths along the way.  We all were meant to learn some things but never meant to stay. Our destination is a place, far greater than we know. For some the journey’s quicker, for some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, we’ll claim a great reward and find an everlasting peace together with the lord.

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.  I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.  I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun.  Of happy memories that I leave when my life is done. “

Above all, Marjorie was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She had a positive spirit, a wonderful sense of humor and a genuine love for people. Her kindness, warmth, and enthusiasm for life touched everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she enriched.

In keeping with Marjorie's wishes, no funeral service will be held.

The family wishes that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her name to the Meadows c/o Smithers Community Services Box 3759 Smithers, BC, V0J 2N0 or contact 250-847-9515 for assistance.
