Mark Kelley McKay, 69, of Smithers, BC, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, after a suspected heart attack.
Mark was born on November 12, 1956, to Boyd and Frances McKay in Rosetown, SK.
After Mark graduated from Rosetown Composite high school, he went on to start his studies in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
November 5th, 1977, Mark married his best gal Laura Jean Elliott of Hershel SK.
Mark and Laura honeymooned their way to BC to join his older brother Loran McKay (Barb McKay) at Loran's Welding. His first job retrofitting the Stege Mill in Hazelton BC, kickstarting a 40+ year career in welding and fabricating. A career that lead to him helping countless people.
Mark and Laura went on to have two linoleum lizards (children), Ryan and Amanda McKay.
Mark spent his spare time with his wife Laura in the garden, hunting, fishing, and teaching his kids and grandkids old fashion skills and old-school values.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Boyd and Frances McKay. He is survived by his devoted wife Laura and their children Ryan (wife Evy and children Ally, Lane, Ella & Lily) and Amanda (Cooper and Mads); his brother Loran (Barb) McKay; his sister Connie; and his loyal buddy, Gus.
Mark will be remembered for his strong hands, quiet strength, excellent hugs and the deep love he showed through the life he built for his family.
Marks last hurrah will be held in the fellowship hall & auditorium at S.C.R Church on March 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM –5:00PM. Address: 4035 Walnut Drive, Smithers.
