Mary Ellen (Ryan) Goodacre

In loving memory of Mary Ellen Goodacre (nee Ryan): January 5th, 1928 - December 28th, 2018. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt Mary “Ellen” Goodacre who passed away peacefully at the Bulkley Lodge.

Born January 5th, 1928, in Colliers, Newfoundland, she graduated from St. Bride’s College in St. John’s, NL. Then she went on to nursing school at the Salvation Army Grace Hospital in 1946, graduating in 1949. After a few months nursing in the TB sanitarium (St. John’s), Mary answered an ad by the Sisters of St. Ann’s in Smithers and accepted a job nursing at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital. She went back to Newfoundland briefly to complete her RN program. Soon after, in August, she married her boyfriend, Slim Goodacre and settled in the valley.

Mary is survived by one sister of her nine siblings, Genevieve Alo, her husband, Clarence (Slim) Goodacre, her daughter, Teri (Don), sons Tom and Bob, and daughter, Betty (James). She is also survived by her grandchildren Levi, Lorne, Kelsey, and Drew, and great-grandchildren, Skylar, Seth, and Shanya.

A Funeral Mass will held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 3rd, 2019, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bulkley Lodge are appreciated, PO Box 360, Smithers, BC, V0J 2N0
