Mathew Gilbert Stringfellow

Mathew (Matt) Gilbert Stringfellow was born on June 21,1931 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. He passed away September 12,2021 at the Bulkley Lodge in Smithers, BC.

Matt was raised as one of seven children, living in Nipawin until the family moved to Vancouver, BC in 1941. He later met his future wife Kathleen (Kay) and was married in August of 1955.   

Matt and Kay raised four children while living in several communities throughout BC. Matt had many occupations throughout his lifetime, most noteworthy as Custodian at Silverthorne Elementary School, Manager of Claude Parish Memorial Arena and spent many years as an Auxiliary RCMP member in Houston, BC.  Matt and Kay moved to Richmond in 1985 to help care for his mother and later retired in Nanaimo, BC.

After the loss of Kay in 2010, from which he never fully recovered, Matt returned to the Bulkley Valley to be near family. He is survived by his children: Linda (Alan), Mathew (Carol), Thomas (Susan), Patrick (Patricia), 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews.   

Known for his hilarious quips and the teller of jokes, Matt will be deeply missed by his family and friends.   

A family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Houston Retirement Housing Society.
