Neil Dykstra, age 42, passed into the arms of his Lord and Saviour on the morning of Wednesday, October 20 after a long battle with mesothelioma. Neil was born and raised in the Bulkley Valley. He lived in the Fraser Valley for 20 years thereafter, eventually settling in Langley with his wife Heather (nee Roodzant) and their daughters Kendra and Desi. Recently Neil and his family returned to Smithers and have been active members of the Smithers Canadian Reformed Church.
Neil loved to discuss and debate on many topics, but especially politics and theology. He was a talented writer, contributing articles for publications, as well as an incredible author of fiction, having written a trilogy of fantasy novels (the Seraph trilogy).
Neil was a loving and dedicated husband and father, leading his family with gentleness, conviction, loyalty, and stubbornness. He had great conviction for the things he believed in, and this was particularly evident in his unswerving, deep faith in Jesus Christ, even as he fought valiantly against the cancer that would eventually cut his life short. Neil's faith was an inspiration to many who knew him.
Neil will be greatly missed by his wife Heather, his daughters Kendra and Desi, his parents Carl and Jenny, his grandmother Maartje, his siblings Kent, Brad, Roxi, Devon and Matthew, and a host of extended family members.
The family would like to thank the incredible team of doctors and nurses who cared for Neil over the past 6 years. As well, we would like to thank the wonderful church community who has been such a support for both Neil and his family.
