Riemke Hiemstra Obituary

On June 18, 2024, our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Riemke Hiemstra, went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the age of 97.  She was born in Wons, the Netherlands, to Rein and Antje Huisman.  She married John Hiemstra in 1950, and emigrated to Canada two weeks later, and settled in Telkwa, B.C.  The last years of her life were spent in Cranbrook, B.C., where three of her daughters reside.

She was predeceased by her husband John, son-in-law John Mensonides, and great-granddaughter Charlotte Amsing.

Riemke is lovingly remembered by her 8 daughters and spouses, Annette and George DeHaan, Ida and Thys Jaarsma, Sylvia Mensonides, Johanna and John Bain, Thelma and Jim Amsing, Jennifer and Steve Gehl, Ann Rita and Ed Aasen, Geraldine and Ken Bouwman, 36 grandchildren and spouses, and 72 great- grandchildren.

Please join us as we gather to remember Riemke and thank God for the life he gave her.  A Memorial Service will be held on July 9, 2024, at 2 pm in the Telkwa Community Church at 1348 Hwy. 16, Telkwa, BC.

The service will be broadcast via Zoom on the Telkwa Community Church Website.
