Robin Hawes Obituary

On February 8th, the final chapter was told in the story of Robin Charles Hawes. Born January 25, 1943, in Enderby, BC to Evelyn (Searle) and Charles Hawes, Robin was many things to many people: logger, rodeo rider, farmer, activist, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Robin lived a full life, always ready for the next adventure. A man of many talents, he traveled and worked across British Columbia before finally putting down roots in Northern BC. Becoming a father to Tara and Renny was one of his life’s greatest accomplishments.

Following the conclusion of his first marriage, his adventures led him to the Philippines, where, after years of writing with Lita, they met and soon married. Lita joined Robin in Canada. They settled at the end of Tatlow Road, where they built a home for their three children, Charlee, Marlina, and Helena.

After a significant logging accident, Robin was unable to continue working in the industry and shifted gears to utilize his diploma in Agriculture and start his own farm. With Robin’s dedication to his family, farming, and community, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Smithers Farmers Market. As the market grew, regulars saw his family grow up and take on a more active role in selling goods – especially when Robin became engrossed in discussions with friends and customers.

In his later years, Robin and Lita moved into town where they officially retired. During this time, Robin wrote his 1st book – A Quest for Independence where he shared stories about his life, lessons learned, and shares advice to the younger generation getting into the farming industry.

Robin will be greatly missed. He is survived by his siblings Marion Coppock (Bob), Brian Hawes (Karen), Barry Hawes (Maxine), children Tara Focht (Rob), Renny Hawes, Charlee Touchette (Eugene), Marlina Hawes (Hank), Helena Grubb (Glen), grandchildren Jaden (Amber), Cameron, Leora, Logan & Morley. Robin is predeceased by his loving wife Lolita Hawes, parents Charles and Evelyn Hawes, sibling Patricia Ann, and son-in-law, Gavin Grubb.

Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Smith, Wellsprings, and the incredible staff at Bulkley Lodge for providing exceptional and compassionate care over the last year. He was always grateful for the care he received and the interactions he had with staff and residents, and appreciated friends stopping by to visit.

A Celebration of Life will be held in May.
