Ronald Purnell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Purnell, our dad, our grandpa, our mate.  His journey on earth ended on April 7, 2022, at the age of 92.  He’s off to start his next adventure with the love of his life Rose Reece (predeceased 2011), who he married on March 9, 1957.

Ron is survived by his 3 children, Julie Vanderkooi (Rob), Steven Purnell (Rhonda) and Michael Purnell (Tricia).  His legacy continues with his 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Dad was born September 17, 1929, in Narborough, England to parents Kate and Arthur.  He was the youngest of 5 children, Evelyn, Sheila, Dennis, Arthur, and baby Ronald.  In Sept. 1963, Ron and Rose immigrated from England to Houston, BC, Canada, where he worked for the Hamblin Family logging.  In 1966 Ron and Rose decided to make Smithers, BC their community and forever home, where Dad started Highland Electric.
Ron was involved in his community through the Lions Club, Minor Hockey, Town Council, the Legion, and many other organizations.  Our dad will always be remembered for his witty banter and joyous smile.  He will be sadly missed at happy hour, and more importantly, missed by all that knew him.

The Purnell family would like to thank all those who provided support and care over the last years to our loving dad and papa.  A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
