Staffie Brine Obituary

Staffie Brine ( nee Stephanza Shelest)

July 23, 1937 – December 14, 2025

On Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the age of 88, Staffie Brine passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. A devoted wife, loving mother, cherished nanny, sister, auntie, and a dear friend to many, Staffie’s warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her.
Born in Prince George, British Columbia in 1937, Staffie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Fred of 69 years; her daughters Sharon (Chris), Gail (Rupert), and Bobbie (Grange); and her beloved grandchildren Leya, Jeremy (Sonya), Haley (Eric), Kodi (Kristina), Matthew, and Adam. She was also the proud great-grandmother of seven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. Staffie was exceptionally proud of her grandchildren and took great delight in celebrating their lives and accomplishments.
She is also survived by her brothers Walter, Mike, her sister Frances, sister-in-law Shirley and numerous nieces and nephews. Staffie was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Frank and Bruno, sister-in laws Marilyn, Pam and Alice.
Staffie and Fred moved to the Bulkley Valley in 1961 from Prince George, where she began her career with Hoskins Ford Sales. For more that 25 years she enjoyed working alongside the mechanics and sales staff—young and old alike—keeping everyone on their toes with her sharp wit and good humour. She cherished meeting new customers and valued the friendships and social connections her work brought into her life.
After retiring, Staffie poured her heart into giving back to the community, generously serving on several local non-profit boards and volunteering her time. She embraced life with energy and enthusiasm, finding joy in golfing, bowling, curling, teaching line dancing, and yoga. Above all, her greatest happiness was found in her garden and in caring for others through food. Staffie delighted in chatting with anyone who passed by her home about her flowers and vegetables, often sending them on their way with a smile and a lovingly gathered bouquet from her garden.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Flynn, Wanda, the Home Support staff, the medical team at BVDH, the BC Ambulance crew, Doug, Roberta, and Steve for their compassion and kindness during Staffie’s illness.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Staffie’s memory to the BC Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
Staffie’s love, generosity, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
