William Hooker Obituary

Dad was born in Erin Ferry, Sk. on May 15th, 1941 and passed away suddenly on Sept.1, 2018.  He spent his early years on the prairies in Wrixon and Debden, SK., where his parents, Robert John Hooker and Catherine MacIntosh Hooker, farmed.  In the late 1950’s they moved to Smithers, BC.  He married Valerie Georgina Smith on Oct. 7th, 1960 and they had three children, Clifford, Carrie and Glenn.

Dad was always a hard-working guy.  He started on the railroad, working with the B&B gang, but found he was away from his family too much, so he got a job with the Department of Highways on the bridge crew.  When the Highways maintenance department was privatized in 1987, Dad went to work for, and was a shareholder of, Nechako Northcoast Construction Ltd.  Dad loved his job running the bridge crew.  He retired in 2007.

Growing up Dad was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed hunting as well and loved to go camping with family and friends.  He was a good hockey player in his youth, and coached minor hockey in Smithers for many years.  He was well liked and made many friends over the years.

Dad was predeceased by his parents Robert and Catherine Hooker and his wife of almost 55 years, Valerie.  He is survived by his sons Clifford (Angela), Glenn (Liza), and his daughter Carrie (Tom) Spicer, and five grandchildren, Robert (Shaina), Kelly (Carrie Ann), Amanda (Gord), Cole and Tiana, and great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Roberta Bodger and sister-in-law Sandy Carlson.

At Dad’s request, there will be no service.
